Programming Immunity
Novel constructs to achieve an augmented immune response
Goal
To bypass classic vaccinology and directly target immune cells and a switchboard of receptors to augment immune responses.
Background and Current Landscape
Advances in classic vaccination rely on increased control over antigen delivery. Newly emerging modalities for vaccine design present the possibility of increased potency, durability, and breadth by directed targeting of antigen/adjuvant and activation of an immune response. These technologies use whole cells or direct cell engagement that reduce or obviate the dependency on classic adjuvants, leading to more control of the final immune state. In addition, immune-based interventions are dependent on the individual immune state of the patient. For example, decreased immunogenic response is observable in older individuals, those with stunting, and who are immunocompromised.
Investments in this subdomain aim to level the immune response playing field by exploring and proving technologies that enable immune renewal.
